 Images of a Lost World
Pictures and Stories of Balkan Sephardic Life

The Jewish Museum of Greece and the Embassy of Spain would like to invite you to the opening of the exhibition Images of a Lost World: Pictures and Stories of Balkan Sephardic Life which will take place on Wednesday 1st June 2016 at 19:30.

The exhibition includes pictures and stories of Balkan Sephardi Jews, as they were told during interviews given at the Centropa Institute. The exhibition also presents portraits and scenes from the lives of the Sephardi Jews in the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean. All the above are presented through 34 panels of pictures and explanatory texts in Spanish and English.

Family portraits, landscapes and rituals, pictures prove the co-existence of Jewish, Spanish and Ottoman influences. The panels are complemented by some very personal accounts. It is a programme which was created, with the support of the Sefarad-Israel Centre, by the Centropa Institute which is based in Vienna and which collects and disseminates data and information  regarding the Jewish world, especially those related to the 19th and 20th century.

The exhibition will be hosted by the Jewish Museum of Greece from 1st June until 15th July 2016.
