From Friday 20 September until Sunday 22 September 2019, the city of Veria hosted this year’s cultural events in Memory of the Holocaust, organized on the occasion of Chairmanship of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg at the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).
The Jewish Museum of Greece participated at the events with the presentation of its temporary exhibition “Hidden Children in Occupied Greece” at the foyer of the Arts Hall. The director of the Museum, Zanet Battinou, spoke about the work the Museum is realizing, its role as a member of the Hellenic Delegation to the IHRA and its contribution in promoting educational programs on the Holocaust. The President of the Jewish Museum of Greece Samuel – Makis Matsas was also present at the event and spoke about his personal experience during Nazi occupation. The exhibition presents 25 cases of Greek Jewish children that were saved in Greek cities and villages by Christians during World War II and will be available for schoolchildren and local visitors.
