“Polish-Jewish 20th Century History and Holocaust Education” – participation of the JMG

The Jewish Museum of Greece, continuing its European actions for developing and strengthening the relations between institutions promoting Holocaust education, took part in the annual Centropa teacher training seminar held in Warsaw, on 28-30 April 2023. In the seminar entitled “Polish-Jewish 20th Century History and Holocaust Education” eight German, eight Polish and for the first time, eight Greek teachers joined forces and exchanged views on the common goals and challenges they face in teaching about the Holocaust in their countries.

Dr. Alexandra Patrikiou, JMG historian, on the occasion of the visit to the Treblinka extermination camp, coordinated a workshop in which she invited the teachers to reflect upon their experience and then, based on additional historical material provided to them, to develop lesson plans and supplementary educational activities for their classrooms.

In the aftermath of the seminar, educators and researchers did not miss the opportunity to present the activities already carried out by teachers, ultimately emphasizing the value of an essential and multi-level approach to Holocaust education regardless of the country and educational system.
