On Friday, 17th February 2017 the Jewish Museum of Greece was visited by Mrs. Marietta Giannakou, Head of the Parliamentary Group of New Democracy in the European Parliament. Mrs. Giannakou was accompanied by Mrs. Vaso Kollias and Mr. Victor Eliezer, Second vice President of the Jewish Communities of Greece, and she was welcomed by the president of the JMG’s Board of Directors, Mr. Samuel (Makis) Matsas. She was also shown around the permanent as well as the periodic JMG’s exhibitions by Mrs. Zanet Battinou, the JMG’s Director. Mrs. Giannakou was among the first Minsters of Education who addressed the issue of training teachers in the teaching of the Holocaust in Greek schools. After the tour, Mrs. Giannakou was informed about the JMG’s seminars “Teaching about the Holocaust in Greece” which are held in Athens and in the rest of Greece and are aimed at teachers and educational student groups visiting the Auschwitz – Birkenau Nazi concentration camp.
