Official Visit

On Tuesday 5 November 2019, 60 members  of the International Council of Jewish Women (ICJW) visited the Jewish Museum of Greece. The ladies were received by the director of the JMG Ms. Zanet Battinou, who gave them a guided tour of the permanent and temporary exhibitions. The visitors were particularly interested in the history of the Jewish communities of Greece, the events of World War II and the Holocaust, as well as in the current situation. They also wished to be informed on the museum’s educational and research work while they were impressed by the current temporary exhibition «The Good Shepherds. Metropolitans and Chief Rabbis in the Face of the Holocaust».

The visit took place during a three-day conference in Athens on “LEARNING FROM THE PAST, INSPIRED BY THE PRESENT, ICJW PREPARES FOR THE FUTURE”, where ICJW representatives from many countries around the world participated. The presentations of the conference were attended by Alexandra Patrikiou, Historian – Special Researcher at the JMG and Anastasia Loudarou, an archaeologist-PhD candidate and special researcher at the Museum who delivered speeches on Women in the Shoah and Jewish Women in Ancient Greece.
