    Message from the Director

The Jewish Museum of Greece has always been a personal source of inspiration and fulfilment. The Museum’s invaluable collection bears witness to a unique Jewish heritage that flourished in this corner of the world for almost 24 centuries and was almost wiped out during the tragic years of the Holocaust. The aim of our Board of Directors, our dedicated staff and our volunteers is the safeguarding, study and dissemination of this tradition, though the Museum’s infrastructure and initiatives.

Our work is of particular interest since at its heart is communication with our fellow citizens and service to society. We are called on to continue in our task of documenting the past, exploring the present and maintaining the future of Jewish history and tradition. We strive to maintain the interest of our members and visitors through high-quality programmes and events. In recent years, the JMG, always with its museum work as a main priority, has expanded its social, educational and research activities, with encouraging results: it organises educational seminars for educators, offers humanitarian and cultural programmes to the public, acquired the status of a research centre from the Greek parliament (2014) and received an award from the Academy of Athens (2019) for one of its most important academic publications.

I would like to thank you for your interest in the Jewish Museum of Greece, and most importantly, I would like to invite you to come and visit us in our physical or digital space. We rely on your presence and support to continue our mission. For our part, we will do our best to make your visit to the Museum a memorable experience.

Hoping to see you soon at the Museum,

    Zanet I. Battinou
    Archaeologist, JMG Director
