Hanukkiyah

In December, Hanukkah is celebrated for 8 days by the kindling of one light on the first night and an additional one each succeeding night. The holiday commemorates the re-consecration of the Temple after the victory of the Maccabees in 165 BCE over their Syrian overlords.

Hanukkiyah, standing lamp, sheet brass with pierced Judaeo-Spanish inscription, donated by “Azaria  H. Shabbetai, Hanukkah 1933″, from Verroia Synagogue.
