The Jewish Museum of Greece mourns the loss of Ellie Sakki – Dekastro, from Volos, who served as a Red Cross nurse from the Greek – Italian war until the end of the World War II. Initially, she offered her services in the Hadjiyorgis clinic, while later at the hospital belonging to the 54th Regiment of the ELAS resistance army at Pelion.
She was a fervent supporter of the work of the JMG. Her personal testimony is part of the JMG’s Oral History Archive, furthermore donated a number of important objects and documents from the War time period. She contributed substantially to various Holocaust Museum’s exhibitions and educational activities.
The JMG honours her memory and considers her valuable offer, a source of inspiration and strength for the continuation of its research and cultural work.
