“The Cycle of Life”

Aim

The programme aims at familiarizing the children with the basic customs and traditions regarding the main stages of a Jewish person’s life, from birth till death; also to compare Jewish traditions with those of other religions.

Means - Stages
 

  1. Introduction
    Welcome to the Museum. Stickers with the children’s names. Introductory games where children say something about themselves.
     
  2. Can and can’t do
    What do you think we can do here today?
    What do you think we can’t do?
     
  3. Introduction to the premises
    Have you been to the Jewish Museum before? What did you see? What did you like? What do you think we are going to see today? Have you been to other museums? Which ones? What did you like? What didn’t you?
     
  4. Introduction to the concept “collection”
    What is a collection? Have you got any? What kind?
    Where else have you seen collections?
     
  5. Introduction to the subject
    Brainstorming of ideas about weddings, name-giving, death.
    Exploring of the exhibition area.
    What did you see? How do you think they are used?
     
  6. Activities
    Investigation

    Now we are going to become investigators and each of you will conduct his or her own investigation (leaflet with drawings).
    The children then present their findings.

    Game: “Box of objects”
    Play Acting
    Acting: recreation of a wedding.
     
  7. Evaluation
    What new thing did you learn at the Jewish Museum today?
    What would you like to see or do next time you’re here?
    What would your life be like if you lived in Greece back then?
